    Communications

    Students learn the many aspects of television and broadcast journalism by taking production courses. Participants will learn how to write and produce public service announcements by exploring videography, voice over narration writing, informational writing, video editing, and the operation of television studio equipment.

    Dual Languages

    Sawgrass Elementary introduces a Dual Language program called “Dual Lenguajes,” consisting of Spanish and English languages (two-way immersion). This program will promote the development of bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural competencies, while ensuring a high quality curriculum and meeting grade-level academic expectations. In addition, instruction will be student-centered creating a multilingual and multicultural learning environment. Research indicates that there are many benefits of having a Dual Language program, such as enhancing student outcomes and closing the achievement gap in second language students.

    Dual Language: Two-Way Immersion Program

    Eagle Point Elementary launched its Dual Language Spanish Immersion Program this school year. Students in the innovative program spend fifty percent of the day fully immersed in the Spanish language. What sets this program apart from all others is that instruction is delivered in all content areas in both languages. The program is currently open to kindergarten and first grade students who live within the school’s boundaries with plan to expand every year by adding an additional grade level through the fifth grade. Each dual language class is comprised of fifty percent Spanish speakers and fifty percent non-Spanish speakers. The goals and vision of the dual language program are to produce college and career ready students.
