Academic Requirements

  • Elementary

    There are no academic requirements for elementary students.

    Middle and High

    Acceptance into some Magnet Programs for middle and high school students is based on academic performance and/or audition. For all middle and high school programs, unless otherwise noted, there is a review process for students who do not meet the academic requirements outlined below. 

    Unless otherwise noted, the minimum requirements for all secondary magnet programs are as follows: 

    Unweighted Grade Point Average: 2.5
    FAST PM 3 (English, language arts and mathematics): 3.0 greater

  • Hollywood Hills Leadership Academy

    Unweighted Grade Point Average: 2.0

    FAST PM 3 (English, language arts, and mathematics): 3.0

    Interview with school admissions committee required. 

  • Integrated Career and Academic Networks (iCAN)

    Select academies have no academic admission requirements for middle or high school applicants. Please contact the school directly for more information. Learn more about the iCAN programs. 

  • International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program/International Baccalaureate

    Unweighted Grade Point Average - 3.0
    FAST PM 3 (English, language arts and mathematics): 4.0 greater

  • Latin School and Science/Pre-Engineering Programs

    Unweighted Grade Point Average - 3.0
    FAST PM 3 (English, language arts and mathematics): 3.0 greater

  • Performing and Visual Arts (Middle School)

    Auditions

    Unweighted Grade Point Average: 2.0
    FAST PM 3 (English, language arts and mathematics): 3.0 greater

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

    There are no academic requirements.

  • All Other Magnet Secondary Programs

    Unweighted Grade Point Average - 2.5
    FAST PM 3 (English, language arts and mathematics): 3.0 greater

  • If FAST PM 3 scores are not available, applicants must provide nationally recognized standardized test scores in reading and mathematics. 

    Students in the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) program, as well as, English Language Learners must meet magnet school entry academic requirements as listed in Policy 5004.1. 

    For students who do not meet academic requirements, there is a review process that must be requested by emailing the Office of School Choice at Schoolchoice@browardschools.com.
