The Department of Safety and Security is dedicated to ensuring the protection of all students, staff, and visitors in Broward County Public Schools, administrative centers, and special event venues.

Department leadership and personnel understand the critical importance of fostering a secure environment that is conducive to learning. To that end, the Department maintains a highly trained and professional security team that patrols school premises, monitors security systems, and provides a visible deterrent to unwanted and threatening behavior. Our security personnel undergo rigorous background checks and receive ongoing training to respond to the ever-changing scope of security challenges effectively.

The Department of Safety and Security consists of over 1200 security professionals, including Campus Monitors, Security Specialists, Campus Security Managers, and Area Security Managers, who all work tirelessly to prevent and respond to potential security threats and incidents. In addition, the Department collaborates with district and school administrators, local law enforcement, state officials, and other stakeholders to implement its comprehensive security protocols.

The administrative security team implements protocols and coordinates security resources for our District administrative centers. Their primary focus is to ensure the safety and security of personnel, visitors, and assets during routine operations and high-profile events. A robust clerical support section rounds out the Department with the primary tasks of coordinating projects and providing administrative support to operational assets.

Department management conducts routine and comprehensive security assessments of all District facilities throughout the year to identify vulnerabilities and subsequently develop tailored response plans, ultimately prioritizing safety education and awareness to empower students, staff, and parents with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond accordingly in various situations.
