    Tobacco Prevention icon We have seen historic declines in alcohol use, binge drinking, and cigarette smoking among Florida’s middle and high school students. Cigarette smoking is at an all-time low with only 2.5% of Floridians ages 12-17 currently smoking. However, according to the World Health Organization, tobacco use still kills nearly 6 million people around the world each year. In the United States, tobacco use is the largest preventable cause of death and disease. It causes many types of cancer, as well as heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and other health problems. Use the below resources and curriculum to help prevent your students from ever using tobacco.

    Want to know another great way to keep them from starting? Teach them about the dangers of E-cigarettes, the most commonly used tobacco product among youth. Although originally marketed to replace cigarettes and reduce the number of smokers, the data indicates vaping is actually creating more people addicted to nicotine and increasing the number of smokers.
