The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is an organization of teachers and other education stakeholders working to advance the teaching profession and to improve student learning. Based on the Five Core Propositions, National Board Standards define what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do in 25 certified areas. They represent 16 different subject areas and four development levels and are applicable to most teachers in U.S. public schools.
