    Mission

To deliver a real world interactive educational experience to elementary students by promoting the interest in life sciences and molding young minds to appreciate the natural world around them by using their scientific observation and analytical skills, the foundational tools in becoming successful scientists of the future.

    Curriculum

Miracle’s Ranch is committed in its quest to enrich Florida’s STEM curriculum by exposing young minds of Grades 1 and 2 to real-life interactive experiences of the life cycles of birds, fish, insects, plants and mammals on its one-acre property in Davie. The program focuses on the life cycles of the butterfly, chicken, rabbit, horse and pea plant through informative videos, meaningful discussions, hands-on activities, pet interactions and arts and crafts. The educational enrichment program of the ranch is aligned to the Florida State Standards for Life Science for elementary students:

SC.L.16.1. Observe and describe major life stages in the life cycles of plants and animals.

    Rotations

During this 1 hour and 40 minute field trip which starts at 10:00 a.m., students will rotate through several stations: Butterfly Garden, Chicken Coop, Horse Barn, Rabbit Hutch, Plant World, Butterfly Necklace, Chicken Ornament, Color the Cycles Booklet, Horse Charm Bracelet and Rabbit Craft.

Depending on the station, the facilitator will show a short video on the life cycle of either the butterfly, chicken, horse, or rabbit. Students will engage in discussions, then complete each station with hands on activities. Completion of all 10 centers ends at 11:40. Schools may decide to stay until 12:00 p.m. to accommodate lunch.

Teachers/chaperones will be briefed on the layout of the farm and how their groups will rotate. They will remind students of behavioral expectations that will keep students safe and comfortable during the field trip.

    Group Size

The field trip accommodates a maximum of 100 students. Students are broken into groups of 10 to ensure delivery of quality instruction, as students rotate through the various centers. Each group must be accompanied by a teacher/chaperone.

Field trips may be broken up over two days to accommodate groups larger than 100.
