Learning Options in BCPS for SY 2020-21
Update as of May 28, 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause concerns on the ability of BCPS to return to full physical operations of school at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. The conditions described by the District in its May 18, 2020 memo announcing that all summer programs will be offered through distance learning have not materially changed. The District is currently preparing for several scenarios of schooling for families to choose the model of learning that best fits their family circumstances. All options will offer high-quality learning experiences. Families will be provided with further information in the coming weeks, be provided the opportunity to ask questions from educators at schools, and be provided sufficient time to select the form of education that best matches their desire from for their student's education. Broward County Public Schools first day of school for the 2020-21 school year will be Wednesday, August 19. It is anticipated families will choose how they will receive instruction in the Fall of 2020.
The first two options keep the student enrolled in their current school with an assigned teacher leading the learning.
- A hybrid of in-person and eLearning (also called distance learning) in their school of enrollment.
- eLearning, with remote teacher instruction for 100% of learning, from their school of enrollment.
The third option has the student transfer out of their current school to enroll full time in virtual learning.
- Enrollment in Broward Virtual School.
<---- More information on each of these options is provided in the links on the lefthand side of this page.
PLEASE NOTE: The details of physically on-school site operations will not be finalized until after the School Board of Broward County (SBBC) meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Details on how and when students will be transported, physically in classrooms with teachers, how school day operations (e.g. lunch, recess, dismissal) will occur and the numerous related issues are still be determined. The SBBC Workshop can be watched here.
