Title I Private School Services
The Broward County Public Schools Title I, Migrant and Special Programs Department is committed to ensuring that all students, including those attending private schools, have access to high-quality educational opportunities. Under Title I, Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) are required to provide eligible private school students with supplemental educational services that are equitable to those offered to public school students.
Specifically, Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), states that a participating LEA must provide eligible students attending private elementary and secondary schools, their teachers, and their families with Title I services or other benefits that are equitable to those offered to eligible public-school students, their teachers, and their families.
The Title I program provides supplemental educational services so that all students have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to receive a high-quality education. To qualify for Title I services, private school students must reside within the attendance area of a participating Title I public school located in a low-income area and demonstrate a risk of failing to meet student academic achievement standards. The services provided are designed to supplement, rather than replace, the private school curriculum.
The department works closely with private school officials to develop and implement Title I programs that meet the needs of eligible students. Through timely and meaningful consultation, the department aims to reach agreements that ensure equitable and effective programs for all students.
