TITLE I, PART D – PREVENTION & INTERVENTION PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH WHO ARE NEGLECTED, DELINQUENT OR AT-RISK
We believe every child deserves a chance to succeed. Title I, Part D, focuses on prevention and intervention programs for children and youth who are neglected, delinquent, or at-risk. Our goal is to break the cycle of disadvantage through education.
Program Objectives
- Elevate Educational Standards: We strive to improve educational services, ensuring that neglected (N) and delinquent (D) youth can meet the same challenging State academic standards as their peers.
- Facilitate Successful Transitions: To provide support for neglected (N) and delinquent (D) youth transitioning from institutions to further education or employment, setting them up for long-term success.
- Prevent Dropouts and Support Re-entry: To prevent youth from dropping out of school and provide youth who have dropped out and youth returning from correctional facilities with a support system to ensure their continued education.
Neglected and Delinquent Program
Students residing in homes for neglected youth participate in the regular academic program at their assigned public schools. Students who are identified as needing additional academic assistance receive supplemental after-school tutorial services provided by a certified teacher funded through Title I.
For students in delinquent youth programs, Title I funds the services of Transition Specialists, who are dedicated to helping students seamlessly transition from the delinquent program back to their home school or an appropriate alternative placement. Their efforts are vital in ensuring that students do not face disruptions in their education and can reintegrate smoothly into the mainstream school system. These services are part of a coordinated holistic approach involving local dropout prevention programs, the juvenile justice system, existing health services, and other educational programs designed to meet the needs of at-risk youth.
