Facilities Servicepersons

  • The Facilities Servicepersons Programs are designed to provide employees with knowledge and skills required to perform in the educational facilities / departments of Broward County Public Schools. These programs require participants to learn how to properly use equipment, properly clean and sanitize facilities, and support, manage and provide leadership to FSP personnel. These programs, along with additional professional learning opportunities, afford participants the chance to gain new knowledge and apply it as best practices in the daily job roles at their sites. For those ambitious individuals, who aspire to be in supervisory positions, Talent Acquisition & Operations (Non-Instructional) offers additional programs, non-instructional courses, and resources, in preparation for these roles.

    To register for any course or program mentioned below, as well as other professional learning courses in Learning Across Broward (LAB), please contact the Technology Support Specialist, Head/Assistant Head FSP, or Office Manager at your school or District site for assistance.  

Courses

  • ASBESTOS AWARENESS
    This general awareness class is designed to help participants recognize the hazards of asbestos in their work environment and observe the steps necessary to avoid exposure, as well as informing employees about the potential hazards associated with the presence of Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) in a building. Newly hired employees in the Facilities Serviceperson bargaining unit shall be trained within 60 days of their initial hire date, per Article 10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    LOCK-OUT/TAG-OUT
    This general awareness class is designed for employees to be knowledgeable about specific practices and procedures to safeguard employees from energization and release of hazardous energy. Newly hired employees in the Facilities Serviceperson bargaining unit shall be trained within 60 days of their initial hire date, per Article 10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    BASIC FACILITIES SERVICEPERSONS PROGRAM
    This 32.5-hour training series is designed to provide entry level skills including: school sanitation procedures, proper use of chemicals and equipment, and safety awareness on the job. Successful completion is required of all newly hired employees in the Facilities Serviceperson bargaining unit within 131 days of initial hire date. Per Article 10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, upon completion of the Basic Facilities Servicepersons Program, permanent Facilities Servicepersons bargaining unit members shall receive a one-time payment of $75.00.

    PROFESSIONAL FACILITIES SERVICEPERSONS PROGRAM - SUPERVISOR
    This 56-hour program includes a series of courses covering areas such as health, safety, inventory management and communication that provides participants with skills necessary to become facilities supervisor and lead teams at their sites. These skills provide the foundation for developing participants to successfully deal with the day-to-day operations and responsibilities required of a facilities supervisor. Successful completion of this program is required prior to being appointed to supervisory facilities positions. Per Article 10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, upon completion of the Professional Facilities Servicepersons Program, permanent Facilities Servicepersons bargaining unit members shall receive a one-time payment of $125.00.

    MASTER FACILITIES SERVICEPERSONS PROGRAM - SUPERVISOR
    This 51-hour program includes a series of courses that dives deeper into areas including leadership, supervision, communication, and time management that provides participants with skills necessary to become facilities supervisor and lead teams at their sites. These skills build on prior programs and continue to provide the foundation for developing participants to successfully deal with the day-to-day operations and responsibilities required of a facilities supervisor. Successful completion of this program is required prior to being appointed to supervisory facilities positions. Per Article 10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, upon completion of the Professional Facilities Servicepersons Program, permanent Facilities Servicepersons bargaining unit members shall receive a one-time payment of $200.00.

    NATURESCAPE BROWARD WATER CONSERVATION
    This 6-hour training is a collaboration between Broward County and BCPS and provides information on improving the efficiency of school irrigation systems and indoor systems, with the inclusion of maintenance fundamentals. This activity will provide an introduction to NatureScape Broward, an overview of the county's Know the Flow outreach program, and information on landscaping best management practices. Facilities staff will be able to identify and fix minor repairs, plant, and mulch and prune at their home sites after attending. The NatureScape Water Conservation Training will also provide the facilities staff with knowledge about recognizing and repairing areas that need maintenance and understanding when to call in a work order. It will also provide tips about water conservation and how to properly prune site grounds.
