State Board of Education approved Broward County Public Schools’ add-on Reading Endorsement Program is in effect from April 1, 2020 to June 30, 2025.
All course content is subject to change for each competency course during the plan's renewal period, which may result in the requirement of additional coursework for participants who are seeking reading endorsement, as determined by the District.

FND AND APP OF LITERACY (COMP 1&2) COMBO COURSE
Course Description: In this course, participants will develop a substantive understanding of the six components of reading as a process: oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This course will build the knowledge to complete all other reading endorsement competencies.
Audience: Instructional K-12, Current, Full-Time Teacher Teaching Reading Intensive Interventions, serving in the role of a Literacy Coach, or participant in the ACE program.
Duration: Self-Paced, 8 weeks online via Canvas
Inservice: 60 points
Access to Students: No
Course Requirements: To complete this course successfully and receive in-service points, participants must adhere to all course requirements posted on the Code of Online Ethics. All coursework must be completed independently by the participant and not plagiarized from any other source or person.Prerequisites: This course is for participants that have not taken Comp 1 or Comp 2. If you have already taken Comp 1 you should not register for this course.
Participants must possess the following computer skills and software to participate in this course: 1) an understanding of your computer’s operating system and software, 2) the ability to access the Internet and knowledge of Internet search techniques, and 3) the ability to download and install files from the Internet an up-to-date antivirus software package. -
FOUNDATIONS OF LITERACY (COMPETENCY 1)

APP OF RESEARCH BASED LITERACY PRACTICES (COMPETENCY 2)
Course Description: In this course, teachers will scaffold student learning by applying the principles of research-based reading instruction and integrating the six components of reading (oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension). Teachers will engage in the systematic problem-solving process.
Audience: Instructional K-12, Current, Full-Time Teacher Teaching Reading Intensive Interventions, serving in the role of a Literacy Coach, or participating in the ACE program.
Duration: Self-Paced, 5 weeks online via Canvas

Audience: Instructional K-12, Current, Full-Time Teacher Teaching Reading Intensive Interventions, serving in the role of a Literacy Coach, or participating in the ACE program.
Duration: Self-Paced, 5 weeks online via Canvas

Course Description: In this course, teachers will have a broad knowledge of students of differing profiles in order to understand and apply research-based instructional practices by differentiating process, product, and context. Teachers will engage in the systematic problem-solving process.
Audience: Instructional K-12, Current, Full-Time Teacher Teaching Reading Intensive Interventions, serving in the role of a Literacy Coach, or participating in the ACE program.
Duration: Self-Paced, 5 weeks online via Canvas

DEMONSTRATION OF ACCOMPLISHED PRACTICES (COMPETENCY 5)
Course Description: This culminating practicum course serves as an online portfolio for teachers to submit a variety of evidence that demonstrates knowledge of the components of reading, as well as assessments and data analysis used to inform reading instruction, to implement a comprehensive research-based reading plan of instruction for all students. Teachers will engage in the systematic problem-solving process.
Audience: Instructional K-12, Current, Full-Time Teacher Teaching Reading Intensive Interventions, serving in the role of a Literacy Coach, or participating in the ACE program.
Duration: Self-Paced, 6 weeks online via Canvas
Inservice: 60 points
Access to Students: Must demonstrate evidence of planning and delivering reading instruction to at least three students in a classroom setting.Course Requirements: To complete this course successfully and receive in-service points, participants must adhere to all course requirements posted on the Code of Online Ethics. All coursework must be completed independently by the participant and not plagiarized from any other source or person.
Prerequisites: Participants must have successfully completed Comp 1-4 in order to register for Comp 5. In addition, participants must possess the following computer skills and software to participate in this course: 1) an understanding of your computer’s operating system and software, 2) the ability to access the Internet and knowledge of Internet search techniques, and 3) the ability to download and install files from the Internet an up-to-date antivirus software package.
