Crime Watch Club - Officer Richard Matos

-
Based on the Neighborhood Watch concept, our school crime watch encourages positive peer pressure among students to take pride in their school through its series of youth crime prevention training programs and action projects. They also learn the best ways to report suspicious activities or disturbances. Youth who participate in a school crime watch also get a chance to see how the judicial system works with our planned field trip tours to local Police Station, Jail and Courthouse.
The STHS Crime Watch Club is a student-led effort that helps youth take a share of responsibility for their school community. Activities hosted or sponsored by STHS Crime Watch are Red Ribbon/Spirit Week, Anti-Bullying/Peace Week, Suicide Prevention month, Substance Abuse Prevention week, and Community Service Projects for graduating hours.
The STHS Crime Watch Club also present PowerPoint presentation covering Cyber-safety, dating violence prevention, bullying awareness, drug and alcohol prevention, school violence prevention, reporting crimes/warning signs, and gun safety awareness/reporting.
Meetings are held on Tuesdays from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.
Board Meetings will be 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, and Club Member meetings will be 2nd and 4th Tuesdays with Officer Matos.

Historic Black Police Precinct Courthouse and Museum 2022
Every year for black history month, Crime Watch Club takes a field trip to visit The Historic Black Police Precinct Courthouse and Museum in Miami. This museum’s mission is to acquire, preserve, display, and promote collections of a historical nature that will be of educational value to the preservation of African American history as it relates to the struggles and accomplishments of Black Police Officers in Overtown area, as they served during the pre-Civil Rights era of the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s. This museum is a full-service facility. It displays police memorabilia, artifacts, documents, video, and word-of-mouth stories by the men and women who worked there. It provides a community center for its citizens, a tutorial center, and learning center for children in the City of Miami’s most underprivileged neighborhoods. It created outreach programs for juveniles that live in these neighborhoods. The museum partners with community organizations in the area and develop crime prevention programs, all of which enhance the quality of life for children and families, making our community a better place to live. Also, Crime Watch club members are treated to Breakfast at Iconic Cuban restaurant Versailles and Lunch at Downtown Bayside.
