• SEL Student Self-Evaluation Survey 

    Teachers will work with students in grades 4-12 to administer a Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey from our BCPS Partner, ReThink Ed. Surveys will be administered during the first semester and second semester.

     The Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Student Survey is part of the BCPS Strategic Plan and addresses 5 of the 6 Florida SEL Health Skills/Competencies.

    The goal is to increase the students' SEL understanding, knowledge, and skills as measured by the SEL Surveys. The Student Self-Evaluation average is from  2.6 to 3.2 by year 5 (2024).

    What are the student results telling us?  Below is the list of skills listed from the greatest need to least based on the Spring 2022 SEL Student Survey.

    Social Awareness ​

    The ability to understand the perspectives of and empathize with others. This includes the capacity to feel compassion for others and recognize family, school, and community resources and support. 

    Self-Awareness ​​

    Self-Awareness is the ability to be aware of one's emotions, thoughts, behaviors, values, preferences, goals, strengths, challenges, attitudes, and mindsets and how these elements impact behavior and choices across contexts. ​

    Self-Management ​​

    The ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations. This includes the capacity to delay gratification, manage stress, and feel motivation and agency to accomplish personal and collective goals.

    Relationship Skills ​​

    The abilities to establish and maintain healthy and supportive relationships. This includes the capacity to communicate clearly, listen actively, work collaboratively to problem solve, negotiate conflict, provide leadership, and seek or offer help when needed. ​

    Responsible Decision Making 

    The ability to make caring and constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions. This includes the capacity to consider ethical standards and safety concerns and to evaluate the benefits and consequences of various actions for personal, social, and collective well-being.

    There are different ways to identify the successes and needs of students' SEL progress and development.
