Principal's Message

    Sunrise Middle School Families,

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their support during the 2024-2025 school year. In order to truly move an organization, it takes everyone, including parents, students, staff, district support and the community. Every individual working together to achieve a common goal. I have included the projected data from our end of year assessments, which demonstrates the remarkable growth that our students achieved this academic year.

English Language Arts (ELA): 66% proficiency (7-point increase from 23-24 & highest score in 14 years). ELA Learning Gains: 61% (3-point increase from 23-24 & highest score in 11 years). ELA Lowest Quartile Learning Gains: 51% (3-point increase from 23-24 & highest score in 11 years). Math: 65% proficiency (9-point increase from 23-24 and highest score in 14 years). Science: 60% proficiency (10-point increase from 23-24 school year & highest score in school history). Middle School Acceleration: 92% (5-point increase from 23-24 school year & highest score in school history).

Based on our projections, we earned increases in 6 out of the 9 areas that the school is graded, which led to an overall increase of 25 points. The State Department of Education will release school grades in June/July, which we are anxiously awaiting. Regardless of our final grade from the state, we are so proud of the progress and growth that our students have made, and we are appreciative of everyone working together to support our students.

When I became the Principal of Sunrise Middle School in April, 2021, one of my first goals was for us to work together to move proficiency in all areas to 60% and higher, which had never been done before at Sunrise Middle. But together, we accomplished the goal this year. Now, we set our sights on moving those areas of proficiency to 70% or higher.

This summer, I hope you and your families take plenty of time to relax and recharge. I challenge you to “unplug” from work, social media, and screen time and focus on enjoying one another. Before you know it, it will be time to return to school and continue the work from this year. With a new year, will come new opportunities. And as we say at Sunrise Middle School, we will work to get One Percent Better, because the Job’s Not Finished.

    #JobsNotFinished

Let’s make these final weeks of the school year our best yet!

    Sincerely,

    Ryan Atwood, Principal
