Principal's Message

  • principal imageDear Awesome Olsen Families,

I am excited to welcome you to the second semester of the school year! I want to begin by addressing some important updates and reaffirming our commitment to providing the best possible educational experience for your child.

First and foremost, Awesome Olsen Middle School is NOT closing. In fact, we are thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with the City of Dania Beach that will bring state-of-the-art athletic fields to our school. These new facilities will include a 400-meter world-class track, a regulation-sized multi-use turf field, basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and pickleball courts, which will directly benefit our Academy of Sports and Athletic Training. We are looking forward to these upgrades as they provide enhanced opportunities for both student development and athletic success.

In addition to these exciting developments, we are in the process of rebranding our iCan Magnet Academies to better align with the needs and interests of our students.

    The new academies will include:
    • Academy of Science and Robotics
    • Academy of Music and Creative Arts
    • Academy of Sports and Athletic Training
    • Academy of Public Safety and Communications

We are on the precipice of a true renaissance at Awesome Olsen. As a boutique school in the heart of Dania Beach, we pride ourselves on offering a personalized, student-centered educational experience. At Awesome Olsen, your child will not be just one of many, but an individual whose growth is nurtured every step of the way throughout their middle school years.

We believe that student attendance matters all day, every day. We need our students in school because learning happens in the classroom. Our hard work is paying off, and we are just 5 percentage points away from becoming a “B” school and 12 percentage points away from becoming an “A” school. These milestones are within reach, and to help our students get there, we are offering multiple extended learning opportunities. We invite you to take advantage of the additional academic support and ensure your child attends the before-school, after-school, or Saturday sessions. These extra learning opportunities can make a significant difference in your child's success.

A quick reminder: student IDs are not optional. All students are expected to wear their ID at all times while on campus. This helps us maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone.
Looking ahead, we are also exploring the possibility of implementing a school-wide unified dress code for the 2025-2026 school year. More information will be provided in the near future as we gather feedback and finalize plans.

As always, we are honored to partner with you in providing your child’s middle school education, ensuring they are high school-ready by the time they complete 8th grade. We truly appreciate your continued support and involvement in our school community. Thank you for your trust, and let’s make this semester a fantastic one for our students!

    All the best,

    Janet Giancarli
