Clubs and organizations are a great way to help develop character and the skills that will benefit you in school, your career, and in life. Skills like commitment, leadership, effective communication, and being able to work successfully in a group all come from participating in a club or organization. Joining a club is a great way to make friends, develop leadership skills, and boost your college resumé.

Art
Sponsor: Ms. Holly Doherty
Here at Challenger Elementary, there is a comprehensive art curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grades. Challenger’s art program is based on learning the basic elements of art, and then building upon that core knowledge using various art projects.
Art techniques, experimenting with different medium, art history, world history, different cultures, artists, math connections and science connections are just some of the things that are integrated into the art projects that your children are doing here at Challenger. Critical thinking and application of skills and knowledge are also necessary components to the making of art.

Kiwanis-K Kids Club
Sponsor:
We are so fortunate to have the Kiwanis of Tamarac sponsor our school. Our fifth grade Kiwanis K-Kids serve the community with their outreach projects. As an act of kindness, each year they provide gift cards for Thanksgiving meals to families in the community. They are involved in food drives for pets and families during the holidays.

Music
Sponsor:
In addition to the general music classes, we have the Challenger Chorus, which consists of selected fifth-grade students who love to sing and express their joy through this valuable extra-curricular club. Moreover, there is the Recorder Club, for "the serious musicians" -- third, fourth, and fifth-grade students who work very hard and practice regularly. Most of these children go on to continue their music careers in middle school. There are several opportunities for these students to perform on stage throughout the year.

Safety Patrol
Sponsor:
At the end of each school year, a group of responsible, outstanding fourth graders is nominated to serve as Safety Patrols when they enter fifth grade. These students assist Challenger students and staff to maintain order, safety, and serve as goodwill ambassadors to our younger students and visitors.

WCES Morning Announcements
Sponsor: Mrs. de la Torre, Media Specialist
WCES is our morning announcement program that airs every school day beginning at 8:45 AM. The program is run by a select group of fifth-grade students who were chosen for their leadership qualities, reading skills, speaking abilities, and citizenship qualities. A new team of five or six students is chosen each quarter to allow more student participation in this fun and challenging activity.
