BCAA Athletics and Activities Participation Rules:

    1. Freshman Entry:
      • To join high school sports or clubs as a 9th grader, you must have moved up from 8th grade without academic or behavioral issues.
      • You start with automatic eligibility but need to keep passing your classes and work towards graduation to keep participating.

    2. Ongoing Eligibility
      • From your first day in 9th grade, you need to maintain a 2.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) to stay eligible for sports and activities.
      • This rule applies to all students in grades 9-12, and your GPA is checked every 18 weeks.
      • Broward County requires this 2.0 GPA despite some state rules allowing lower GPAs in certain cases.
      • Remember, GPA is calculated without extra points from honors or AP classes.
    3. Student Behavior: Good behavior is a must. Poor conduct can lead to losing the privilege to participate in these activities.

    4. Transferring to a New School
      • If you're new to a school, you're eligible to join activities there as long as you enroll at the start of the school year or participate in summer practices.
      • Transferring schools after starting 9th grade requires completing the correct forms to ensure compliance with recruitment policies.
      • If transferring before a sports season starts, you're eligible at the new school if you meet certain conditions, including district or private school transfer policies.

    5. Age Restriction: you can participate in high school sports until you turn 19 years and 9 months old, as long as you haven't passed four years of high school eligibility.

    6. The Four-Year Rule states that you are eligible for high school sports for four consecutive years, starting from the time you enter 9th grade.

    7. Health Insurance and Physicals:
      • Athletes need to have health insurance AND a completed SPORTS physical exam form (See below for the EL 2 Form) on file. If you don't have personal insurance, you can buy it through a school-approved vendor.
      • You also need to complete and file consent forms for physical fitness and liability release.

    8. Personal Fitness Waiver: Participating in two complete sports seasons can exempt you from one personal fitness credit if you pass a competency exam. This is managed through your school's athletic department.
