William T. McFatter Technical High School offers an integrated curriculum, project-based learning, alternative assessment, technical exhibition, college-type block scheduling, industry involvement and distance learning. Technology is integrated into every aspect of the educational program, fostering an innovative learning environment. Teachers encourage critical thinking and employ diverse teaching methodologies.
McFatter offers a wide array of technical programs from which students select their junior and senior majors. The program selection process is thorough and precise, enabling all students to make informed choices.
Our MAGNET ONLY high school program promotes academic, career and technical studies in order to prepare students to enter and remain competitive in a global workforce. The school is committed to supporting students in reaching their academic and career goals through rigorous academics and concentrated technical education.

McFatter Technical High School is a public magnet school with a theme of Technical Education. Our students graduate with both the academic requirements necessary for entry into post-secondary education (college) as well as technical training in one of 23 technical career choices:
Architecture & Construction: Drafting, Electricity
Arts, A/V Technology & Communications: Digital Media/Multimedia Design, Digital Photography Technology, Digital Printing Technology, Television Production Technology
Business Management & Administration: Accounting Operations, Administrative Office Specialist, Legal Administrative Specialist, Medical Administrative Specialist
Education & Training: Early Childhood Education, Principles of Teaching
Health Science: Dental Laboratory Technology, Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technology, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician - ATD, Practical Nursing

Academic Requirements

Entrance requirements are:
Have at least a 2.5 GPA in the four core classes (English, Math, Science and Social Studies) on the most recent report card.
Level 3 or higher in both FSA/EOC Math and Reading from the previous school year. If the FSA is not available, at least 50th percentile in Math and Reading on most nationally recognized standardized test will be accepted.
Transportation for Magnet Students

Transportation is only available to students who live at least TWO miles from McFatter, south of Sunrise Boulevard, and in Broward County.

If I apply to William T. McFatter Technical High School and meet criteria, am I guaranteed a spot?
McFatter has a limit of 150 students per grade. If the number of applications exceeds the number of available seats, the district will perform a random selection. Random selections occur from the eligible wait-pool until the 10th day of the new school year until all seats are filled.

Are the classes hard at McFatter?
All of the academic classes are offered at the Advanced Placement (AP) or Honors level. Students are required to take AP classes each year with an option to contract down to honors after the first month. Technical programs are taught by instructors from our college and receive post-secondary credit.

How many classes do students take per day?
McFatter is on a true 4X4 College Block. Students take 4 90-minute classes per semester. In the 3rd quarter they begin new classes. Technical program classes equal to 2 high school classes (180 minutes each). Students in grades 11 and 12 only have 3 subjects as a result of the time required for technical programs.

Can I study more than one technical program at McFatter?
Most programs take 2 school years to complete at 3 hours per day. Students take only one technical program as a result of the credit requirements to complete. Exceptions are Principles of Teaching, Early Childhood Education, EKG Technician, and Applied Information Technology (students can take any 2 of these programs).

When do you start the technical program?
Students are offered opportunities to explore the technical areas in grades 9 and 10. Students will begin their technical area of study in grade 11 and will continue through grade 12.
