Stranahan Recognized in 2013 By US News & World Report
 

 
Once again, Stranahan High has been recognized by US News and World Report as a Silver Medal School.  We increased out National Rank from #967 to # 841, our State Rank from #53 to #48 and our College Readiness Index from 33.3 to 38.2.  We also increased our Magnet Rank from #153 to #132. It's a great year to be a Dragon.  Congratulations Staff and Students. Stranahan High School was recognized as a Silver Medal winner among American's Best High Schools. Analysis is based on standardized test performance, proficiency rates or all students including least advantaged and challenging college-ready curriculum.

Stranahan High Received National 2013 Magnet Schools Award -- Magnet School of Distinction

Stranahan High was among four Broward County Public Schools named by the Magnet Schools of America as Magnet Schools of Excellence and Magnet Schools of Distinction. Virginia Shuman Young Elementary, Montessori,  Atlantic Technical High School, Technical; South Plantation High School, Environmental Science; and Stranahan High School, Medical Science; were named Magnet Schools of Distinction.

The schools were honored at the Magnet Schools of America Conference in May in Indianapolis, Indiana. School representatives received a plaque during the awards ceremony that is the culmination of the conference. This was the first year that four BCPS were recognized in one year.

The Magnet Schools of America (MSA) is a national organization whose mission is to provide leadership for innovative instructional programs that promote equity, diversity and academic excellence for all students in public school choice programs. Merit awards are based on commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts and the consistent delivery of quality services to all school stakeholders.

Stranahan Recognized By the College Board

Congratulations went out to Stranahan High School at the School Board Meeting on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from the College Board, as Broward County now ranks second in the nation in AP Exam Scores for African Americans and 3rd in the nation for Hispanic students.  Stranahan High played a major role in that statistic as we now rank 70th in the nation in exam performance for African American/Black students.  Nova High School, Ft Lauderdale High School and Miramar High School sit just ahead of us in the top 100.

 As you may recall, Stranahan High School was the recipient of the Inspiration Award in 2007 from the College Board for our work and test scores with minorities on Advanced Placement Exams.  One of the tenants of High School Reform included increased rigor in High School Coursework and removing barriers that have prevented students in the past, from being enrolled in Advanced Placement classes.  Stranahan High has been at the forefront of that movement and continues to be.

 Our staff works diligently to encourage students to attempt rigorous coursework as we prepare them for College Readiness and assist students who are identified through the AP Potential report, per PSAT scores, as having the potential to be successful.  This recognition belongs to staff who recognize potential and encourage students to enroll in AP Classes, as well as Guidance Staff members who research each student from the AP Potential Report and place them in AP Classes and AP teachers who assist struggling students and help them achieve success. 

 When the reports come back, Stranahan not only count our successes by the number of students who pass the exams, but the number of Level 2 students who were exposed to College Level Coursework and almost passed the exam.  Other schools in Broward County are now on board with this philosophy.  Congratulations, Stranahan High, a 91% Minority, 78% Free and Reduced Lunch, High School. Stranahan Recognized by Newsweek Magazine in 2009
 
Ten Broward County Public Schools high schools and one charter high school were recognized amongNewsweek magazine’s top high schools in the nation in 2009. The District high schools honored included Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Nova, Fort Lauderdale, Stranahan, Miramar, Cooper City, Cypress Bay, J.P. Taravella, Flanagan and Plantation. The Pembroke Pines Charter High was also listed.
