  • Underclassmen are provided the opportunity to gain Microsoft Office (MOS) and/or Adobe (ADA) Suite Industry Certifications within our Emerging Technology and Tech Studies course. If underclassmen have yet to receive MOS or ADA bundles, they are provided an opportunity to work toward such within a Self-Paced course.

Career Programs

  • Automotive Service Technology - AYES

    The Automotive Service Technology - Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) program prepares students for employment as automotive technicians by providing state-of-the-art automotive service repair techniques on both foreign and domestic vehicles. Automotive technicians perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair on automobile and light truck systems. The program content includes, but not limited to: electrical systems, engine performance, brakes systems, and steering/suspension systems. The curriculum integration of theory and practice prepares students to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification test(s). High school students have the opportunity to test in Brakes and Electrical, among other ASE areas.

    ASE College Credit Transfer Opportunity and/or Advanced Credit upon completion of the program and meeting eligibility requirements, students may be awarded credits toward an Associate Degree by Broward College or the Florida College System.

  • Barbering

    This program includes training in hair cutting with clippers, shears, styling, shaving, mustache and beard designs, hair coloring, chemical waving, and relaxing. Training includes:

    • Safe and efficient work practices
    • Florida Barber Law and Rules
    • Chemistry (Demonstrates appropriate understanding of basic sciences)
    • Bacteriology, Anatomy, Physiology
    • Identify and perform trimming/shaping hair (to work with a variety of tools and equipment)
    • Identify and perform hairstyles
    • Identify and perform mustache and beard design
    • Demonstrate shaving the face
    • Identify and perform facial treatments

    Barber graduates are eligible to apply for licensure in Florida as a Restricted Barber. Students are introduced to the laboratory where they render hair and facial treatments to the general public for a nominal fee. This invaluable work experience at Sheridan Technical College prepares the student with entry-level skills.

    The Barber curriculum is designed to qualify students for the Barber Licensing Examination which is governed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

  • Building Trades & Construction Design Technology

    The Building Trades & Construction Design Technology program is designed to prepare students for employment in the residential and commercial construction industry. The content includes but is not limited to: applying construction techniques; reading plans and specifications; and developing trade skills in carpentry, masonry, electricity, plumbing and air conditioning. The curriculum integration of theory and practice provides students with fundamental entry level skills necessary for the construction industry.

  • Business Management & Analysis

    This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Business, Management, and Administration career clusters. Students will gain technical skill proficiency, which includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, more attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupational-specific skills, and certifications to endorse competency levels: Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification - ESB, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Master Certification, QuickBooks Certified User, Certified IRS/Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteer.

    Mrs. Holder’s students competed in the Business Professionals of America competitions, 12 Business and Legal students traveled to Orlando to represent Sheridan Technical College/High School at the State Leadership Conference. In total, eight of her students placed in the top 1st – 5th place in multiple competitions and they will be competing in National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California – April 26 -30. Thank you to Jose Laverde for working with Mrs. Holder to institute a Business Professional of America Chapter at our school. Congratulations to Mrs. Holder and her Business & Legal students on these accomplishments.

  • Cosmetology

    The Cosmetology Training program focuses on a broad spectrum of subjects, which include but are not limited to:

    • Florida Cosmetology Laws and Rules

  • Early Childhood Education

    The Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Professional Certification (ECPC) Program prepares students for employment within the industry as early childhood educators, lead preschool teachers, VPK Teachers, before-care/after-care workers and supervisors, child development specialists, directors/owners, and family day care home operators.

    Included are the following major areas of training: child growth and development; health; safety; nutrition; behavior guidance techniques; child abuse and neglect; rules and regulations governing child care; community and environmental issues; language development and emergent literacy; lesson and program planning; implementation of developmentally appropriate practices for children birth through age eight; inclusion of children with special needs; interpersonal relations; communication; balancing family, school and work; employability skills; labor issues; entrepreneurship; and management and finance.

    Early Childhood Education is a Florida Department of Education Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC) program. The ECPC is accepted for the Department of Children and Families Staff Credential. Students who complete the ECE/ECPC program are prepared to pursue the National Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and are also eligible for nine (9) college credits at any state public university.

  • Electricity

    This program focuses on training in electricity for residential, commercial and industrial systems. The students will be instructed on conduit bending techniques, blueprint reading, fire alarm installation, journeyman preparation and interpreting national and local electrical codes. Students will also master the understanding of all aspects of the electricity industry’s planning, management, finance, technical and productions skills, with underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety and environmental issues.

  • Electrocardiograph Technology

    The Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technology program prepares students for employment as electrocardiograph aides, electrocardiograph technicians, cardiovascular technologists/technicians or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in this occupation. EKG technicians, also known as cardiographic or electrocardiogram technicians, perform diagnostic tests to aid doctors in identifying and treating cardiovascular problems in patients. The program content includes but is not limited to: communication and interpersonal skills, overview of human anatomy and physiology with emphasis on cardiac and vascular systems, medical terminology and transcription, patient care techniques, medical instrumentation, cardiovascular drugs, interpretation of monitoring and testing results, medical ethics, cardiac wellness and rehabilitation, safe and efficient work practices, CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS) and employability skills. The curriculum integration of theory and practice prepares students to take the Certified EKG Technician assessment.

    Program Content:

    • Certified EKG Technician (CET)

  • Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration

    Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating is a high-demand career field. The programs train students for employment as heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics or air conditioning installer/servicers. Instruction and laboratory activities include planning, installing, testing, and servicing of A/C, refrigeration, and heating systems and components, taught on state-of-the-art equipment. Students also learn troubleshooting electrical and mechanical components; testing, diagramming, and solving problems in A/C, refrigeration, and heating equipment; brazing and soldering tubing and piping; installing and servicing controls and components; electrical wiring; troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems; routine maintenance and service. This program also offers Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification, comprehensive recovery, and recycling.

  • Legal Administrative Specialist

    The Legal Administrative Specialist Program is designed to prepare students for employment as a general office clerk, clerical support staff, administrative support staff, and legal secretary. The content focuses on broad, transferrable skills in the area of legal administrative specialist, including communications; critical thinking and decision-making; legal terminology; office procedures and practices specific to the legal environment; transcription of legal documents; utilization of advanced software applications; career research; the legal aspects of business and papers; and the development of high-quality employment portfolios and job seeking documents. The Legal Administrative Specialist Program prepares students for the Accredited Legal Professional certificate.

  • Medical Administrative Specialist

    This program will provide students with a variety of skills for employment in the medical field to perform administrative support functions. Students in the Medical Administrative Specialist program will learn medical office duties that utilize knowledge of information technology, medical terminology, medical billing and coding, medical transcription. Students will prepare to attain the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) to become part of the Allied Health Profession.  As a CMAA you can perform the following tasks:

    • Review and answer practice correspondence
    • Operate computer systems to accomplish office tasks
    • Answer calls, schedule appointments, greet patients and maintain files
    • Update and maintain patient and other practice-specific information
    • Coordinate operation reports such as time and attendance

    Upon completion of the program and meeting eligibility requirements, students may be awarded up to 25 college credits towards an A.S. or A.A.S. degree by Broward College or up to 21 credits by other selected Florida Community Colleges.

  • Medical Assisting

    * GPA requirement 3.0 unweighted and 3.2 weighted.

    Students are required to complete a health screening, obtain vaccinations, and pass a background check to participate in clinical rotations.

    The Medical Assisting program curriculum includes the following major skill areas: interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, health illness concepts, and administrative and clinical duties.

    Medical Assistants perform many administrative duties, including answering the telephone, greeting patients, updating, and filing patients’ medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping.

    Clinical duties may vary according to the office, but can include taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations and procedures, performing venipuncture and electrocardiograms (EKGs), assisting with office/ambulatory surgery, administering medication under the direction of a physician, collecting specimens, and performing limited laboratory examinations. The Medical Assistant works with the office healthcare provider to care for their clients in a safe and effective manner. Students prepare for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certificate.

  • Network Support Services

    The Cisco Networking Academy offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills in configuring, administering, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN infrastructures. The program prepares students to take the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or CompTIA A+ certification exams. It is designed to help students gain employment as a Computer Support Assistant, Network Support Assistant, Network Administrator, Wireless Network Administrator and Data Communications Analyst. Students will obtain a free Cisco software simulation program and gain access to real routers and switches with face-to-face mentoring. Program content includes:

    • OSI and TCP/IP layering models and network troubleshooting
    • IPv4 and IPV6 addressing and Sub-netting
    • Cable making and testing
    • Configuring routers and switches via IOS command line
    • Setting up basic and advanced security features, including access lists

  • Network Systems Administrator (NAS)

    The Network Systems Administration program is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of information technology occupations. The content includes but is not limited to: virtualization; creation of multiple virtual machines in a domain environment; computer literacy; software application support; basic hardware configuration and troubleshooting; and networking technologies. The curriculum integration of theory and practice prepares students for the Network+, Microsoft Azure Windows Server Hybrid Core and AWS Cloud Practitioner.

  • Pharmacy Technician

    As a Licensed Pharmacy Technician, you can become part of one of the fastest growing careers in the medical field. Our training program is designed to teach students the knowledge and skills needed to work closely with pharmacists in retail/community and hospital pharmacies. Students will learn how to assist in filling and labeling medications using a computer-based program, manage purchases and inventory, and maintain accurate medical records and patient profiles. Students will also focus on medication distribution systems, preparing unit dose medications, aseptic techniques, and sterile IV’s under USP-797 guidelines. Clinical experience will take place in both retail/community and hospital pharmacies. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam (PTCB) and become registered and licensed by the Florida board of Pharmacy.

  • Practical Nursing

    2022 Nursing Students Pinning Success

    Students are required to complete a health screening, obtain vaccinations, and pass a background check in order to participate in clinical rotations. 

    This program is approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing, which makes the graduate eligible to take the NCLEX examination to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The content includes, but is not limited to: theoretical instruction and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric, and geriatric nursing; theoretical instruction and clinical experience in both acute and long term care situations; theoretical instruction and clinical application of vocational role and function; personal, family and community health concepts; nutrition, human growth, and development over the life span; body structure and function; interpersonal relationship skills; mental health concepts; pharmacology and administration of medications; legal aspects of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS), computer skills and employability skills. 

    Theory and clinical procedures are integrated into the curriculum to reinforce learning. 

    Licensed graduates may be employed in hospitals, extended care facilities, physicians' offices, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), home healthcare and hospice agencies, as well as private patient care. LPNs work under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or licensed physician. LPNs may continue their education by pursuing an Associate of Science degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN). 

  • Professional Culinary Arts & Hospitality

    The Culinary Arts program covers Sanitation & Safety, Garde Manger (Cold Foods), Hot Foods, Baking, Nutrition, Supervision & Management, and controlling foodservice costs. This program is accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation, Inc. in which credits articulate to Broward College towards Culinary Arts Management degree. Students may apply for experiential credit if currently employed in a qualified food service position.

    Total hours each term will be a combination of classroom, lab and on-line work. Qualified students have the opportunity to obtain the ServSafe certification. Additional skills covered in the Culinary Arts program include:

    Digital & Multimedia Design The student will spend about a month on each of 10 of the most cutting edge software applications available today. When the student completes the class, they will have been trained to use software that will enable them to be a Digital & Multimedia Designer with abilities encompassing the skills to be a Publications Designer, 2 or 3D Animator, Video Editor and Web Designer. The students are tested quarterly in the area of study and able to earn professional industry certification in the following applications.
