What is PYP?
-
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is designed for students aged 3 to 12. It focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development.
The PYP draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children.
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) provides a shared curriculum for primary schools throughout the world. It does not replace the district scope and sequence or the state requirements but expands on them providing breadth and depth to understanding for primary age children. In addition, it provides the students with an international perspective that relates their world in the U.S. and Florida to a larger global community. The curriculum is designed as an interactive whole, that eventually encompasses the full range of disciplines and adds to the district and state guidelines.
Wilton Manors Elementary IB World School is a magnet program. All students in the school participate in the program, however, students not living within the school's boundaries must apply to the Broward County Public Schools Demographics and Student Assignments office. Please click here to obtain a copy of the Primary Years Programme brochure.

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. -
IB Learner Profile Attributes
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them. Each of the IB's programmes is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.

Service Learning Projects
In the PYP, it is believed that education must extend beyond the intellectual to include not only socially responsible attitudes but also thoughtful and appropriate action. Therefore, taking action is an essential element of the PYP. An explicit expectation of the program is that successful inquiry will lead to responsible action, initiated by the student as a result of the learning process. This action will extend the student's learning, or it may have a wider social impact, and will clearly look different within each age range. PYP schools can and should meet the challenge of offering all learners the opportunity and the power to choose to act; decide on their actions; and to reflect on these actions in order to make a difference in and to the world.
The Student Council and Kiwanis K-Kids Club at Wilton Manors have initiated school-wide service learning projects each year. Projects typically impact our school, our local community and our world. International projects have impacted schools in Haiti, Mexico and Educador.
