The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma is an international curriculum and examination system that emphasizes the value of broad and balanced study. The diploma is administered by the University of Cambridge in England and is accepted in more than 160 countries. Alongside in-depth understanding of a variety of subjects, students also need to master a broader range of skills critical for success in university study and employment.
The Cambridge AICE Diploma was first awarded in 1997 and has since become popular with a range of schools in different parts of the world. It encompasses the ‘gold standard’ Cambridge International Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced (A) Level qualifications and offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to their individual interests, abilities, and future plans within an international curriculum framework.

The Cambridge AICE Diploma is made up of individual Cambridge International AS & A Levels, which have widespread international standing as educational qualifications. The Cambridge international curriculum sets a global standard for education and is recognized by universities and employers worldwide. Cambridge programs combine an emphasis on mastering subjects in-depth with the development skills for study and work in the future. We value deep subject knowledge as well as the conceptual understanding that helps students make links between different aspects of a subject. We also encourage students to develop higher-order thinking skills - problem-solving, critical thinking, independent research, collaboration, and presenting arguments. These are transferable skills that will last a lifetime, preparing students for their future lives. They also make learning enjoyable and rewarding.
How to Attain the AICE Diploma
By demanding knowledge from three different subject groups, plus the core compulsory subject, Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives & Research, the Cambridge AICE Diploma provides a broad curriculum with a balance of mathematics and science, languages, arts and humanities, and interdisciplinary subjects. To achieve the Cambridge AICE Diploma, learners must achieve a minimum of seven credits (including Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives & Research – Group 0) from subject Groups 1(Mathematics and Science), 2 (Languages), and 3 (Arts and Humanities), (and optionally Group 4) to be awarded the Diploma. The remaining credits can come from any of the groups. Cambridge International AS Level is typically a one-year course and awards one credit. Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course and awards two credits.
Florida Bright Futures Tuition Scholarship
If a student earns a Cambridge diploma and completes 100 service hours, they qualify for the highest level of Bright Futures without having to meet the SAT or ACT requirements.
College Credits for Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced (A) Level Exams
Students receive high school credit when they pass the course and college credit when they pass the examination. Colleges award credit on a subject-by-subject basis according to grades earned on individual examinations. Students do not have to complete the seven points for the Cambridge AICE Diploma in order to receive college credit. Cambridge International AS & A Level exam series are held twice a year, in June and November. Results are issued in August and January.
Is AICE Comparable with IB and AP?
Yes. All three of these programs are well-known in the education community and in universities around the country. Both AICE (AS and A-Levels) and IB are recognized at universities around the world. An important difference between AICE and IB is the flexibility of the AICE Diploma. Students have the autonomy to create their own educational experience within the three AICE curriculum areas.
