Teacher Spotlight-Robert Gordon

April 30, 2019,

Dear Community Partner,

As the end of the 2018-2019 school year approaches, I wanted to highlight a few of our staff members and their efforts this year.   This month we are focusing on Mr. Robert Gordon.

Mr. Gordon is the teacher of our Engineering and Robotics program.   His students at L612 gain the knowledge, and technological skills needed today in the engineering and robotics professions. Instruction includes studies in each of the following areas; Computer Aided Drafting & Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Robotics.

One of the several computer programs students learn in Engineering and Robotics Technology is Mastercam, which is a computer manufacturing program. The students use the software to create decorative and functional products. After acquiring advanced knowledge of the software students can achieve an Associate Level Industry in Mastercam. Engineering and Robotics students also become proficient in BASIC and C-Based programming languages which can be applied to careers in robotics and computer science. The Robotics curriculum gives students an opportunity to apply the principles of simple machines as they create, build, and program robots. Students who take Engineering and Robotics Technology are encouraged to join the Engineering &Robotics Club which participates in VEX Robotics Competitions.

Finally, students who complete the three high school courses of the Engineering Pathway (Intro to Engineering, Principles of Engineering and Computer Integrated Manufacturing) are eligible to receive the Bright Futures Scholarship.   If you would like to see Mr. Gordon’s programs “in action” sometime, please contact me at 754-322-3615.
